Over the weekend Tim and I celebrated our 12th wedding anniversary (and 18 years together!)  Loretta was gracious enough to babysit Lex so we could actually enjoy a kid-free dinner at an Italian restaurant downtown.

On Sunday Lex and I left Tim at home (due to his extreme horse allergy) and went to a very cool birthday party held at a local stable.  There were four different horses that the party guests could groom and then ride.  Despite the fact that this was the first time Lex had ever even been around a horse, he had no fear and enjoyed the experience.  (And of course we were very careful to take off and immediately wash all of our “horsey” clothing when coming back into the house.)

Then today we went to another pumpkin patch with our play group.

The farm had a train that took the guests over to the pumpkin field.  This was the highlight of the day for the kids!

We drove to Boise over the weekend of Tim’s birthday to catch up with his family again.  His dad’s hanging in there, but didn’t feel very well while we were there.

On the Tuesday after we got back, Lex’s preschool had a field trip to Plumper pumpkin patch.  The weather actually cooperated, although all the kids were dressed for possible rain.  Here’s Lex’s class posing with teachers Theresa and Jolene:

Each kid (and parent) got to take home a pumpkin.  Lex had a very difficult time deciding which one he wanted.

Then the following weekend our family went to the apple festival at Oregon Heritage Farms. There was a bouncy house for kids, caramel apples for sale, a hayride around the apple fields, and face painting.  It was fun!

Yesterday was a sad day for our family.  We had to put Apple to sleep.  Our vet came to our home and the procedure was very calm and peaceful.  She had been suffering from diarrhea and vomiting for over a week, and was no longer eating.  The poor girl lost a ton of weight and could barely stand by the end.  Her bloodwork indicated that she was most likely undergoing kidney failure.   Although I feel good about our decision to put her out of her suffering, our hearts are broken and we miss her terribly.

RIP, crazy old girl.  There will certainly never be another dog like you!
