Daddy’s little helper

Lex loves helping Tim around the house.  Here’s a few things they’ve done together lately…

Lex had another random fever this weekend.  I swear, it’s becoming second-nature to dole out the ibuprofen before bed these days.  We’re all looking forward to a healthier spring…

Potty time and roller skating

January 19th, 2011 | Category: Lex

Apparently I’m going to be sick this entire winter.  This time it’s just a cold, but our household has been hit with every illness under the sun, and believe me, it’s getting old!  So I apologize once again for the infrequency of my blogging, but I just don’t have anything left in me by the end of each day.

The most exciting thing to report from the past few days is that Lex peed in the potty for the first time ever.  He was rewarded royally with several new cars, and it was nice that his grandparents from Boise happened to be in town to witness and help celebrate the big event.  Lex’s potty success seems to be an isolated incident so far, but we keep encouraging him to try again, and I bought him a new truck (which is currently on display on top of the fridge) as an added incentive today.

Story time with Grandpa:

This morning Lex and some of his friends went to a special roller skating class for toddlers.  It was worth the $5 for comedic value alone.  At first Lex wouldn’t even put on his skates…he just drove the skate around with his hand like it was a car.

But after seeing all his friends with them on, he eventually broke down and let me put on his skates.

Lex didn’t really enjoy wearing the skates, and we took them off soon after.  I think we’ll wait another year and give it another try.  He had more fun riding the motorcycle in the game room after his shoes were back on.

Tomorrow morning we’re going to tour a potential preschool for next fall.  I can’t believe my baby is old enough to start going to school!

the rest of December

January 01st, 2011 | Category: Lex

Whew!  What a month.  What a year.  I don’t know about the rest of you, but I hope that 2011 is a better year for our family.

We spent the weekend before Christmas in Boise for an impromptu gathering with Tim’s family.  His dad was recently diagnosed with lung cancer, so we wanted to be there to show our support as he underwent further testing.

One of Lex’s trip highlights was going for a tractor ride around Uncle Lee’s farm.

My dad actually arrived in Portland one day before we got back in town, so he had our house to himself for a night.  Lex enjoyed reacquainting himself with his Grandpa Stewart.

This holiday was “the Christmas that almost wasn’t.”  My sister and her family were supposed to arrive in Portland on Wednesday, but instead they had to stay home to take care of my poor sick nephew.  And then my sister got sick too.  Miraculously they recovered enough to fly here on Christmas morning.  So it was well after nap time before any presents were actually opened.

My dad left on the Wednesday after Christmas, and the Deakers left on Thursday.  Our house is now quiet once again (well, relatively) and the tree and decorations have finally been taken down.  Our family’s new year’s eve celebration involved eating pizza for dinner and being in bed by 9 pm.  That’s right…we know how to party!
