“Is there a doctor in the house?”
Dr. Lex Weaver, reporting for duty:

Yesterday our play group had its annual Halloween party, and it was a lot of fun. But as you can imagine, trying to line up 11 costumed kids under the age of two for a picture was quite chaotic. Many of the kids burst into tears. Lex still hates to wear clothes of any kind, so I dressed him in scrubs because they were the least inhibiting. There’s no way I could ever get that boy into a fluffy animal suit! But he was cool as a cucumber during the photo shoot.

Typing out prescriptions on the laptop:

The moms of my group were debating whether to call Lex “Dr. McDreamy” or “Dr. McSteamy.” (Grey’s Anatomy reference)

Lex waiting as Jessi makes him a spider out of pipe cleaners:

The spider turned out to be orange and blue. BSU fans should be proud.

Lex has another Halloween party at Gymboree on Saturday. And I think we’ll take him trick-or-treating to a few houses on Halloween night, just to make a neighborhood appearance. But he’s really too young for the candy. I guess mom and dad will have to step up and eat it for him this year!

The house is decorated and Lex has a costume (if he chooses to actually wear it). So bring on the ghosts and goblins!

New hired hand
Lately we’ve had quite a bit of work to do around the house, so we’ve found somebody to fill the role of maintenance man. He’s a little short (or shall I say “vertically-challenged”), but he’s definitely cute and is enthusiastic about his role.
In this picture he’s helping Tim hang artwork in the bedroom:

And here he’s helping me make muffins: (he really gets into his work)

I had to get him a stool so he can help with the dishes:

But sometimes instead of washing the pots, he just stands in them.

He’s good about getting rid of the leaves out back:

And today he helped Tim wash out the hot tub:

But sometimes our maintenance guy gets distracted by toys:

After a long day of chores, he really just likes to relax and check his email. We’re trying to keep him out of the chat rooms.

Getting out of the house
Today was a hard day for me. I’m sure this is all part of the natural grieving process, but there are certain days when I can’t stop crying over Kiwi’s death. I miss my little dog SO much. But I do try to keep it together for Lex’s sake, and that’s easier to do when we’re out of the house. So today we spent the afternoon at the zoo.
I felt a lot like this polar bear:

But there’s a new African exhibit with lions and cheetahs, and it was pretty cool.

Splashing in puddles outside the petting zoo:

The tractor at the zoo…a highlight for Lex:

New shopping cart
Lex’s grandparents bought him a pint-sized shopping cart for an early birthday present, and he absolutely adores it.
Taking puppy and kitty for a ride around the house:

I carry Lex’s cart in the trunk of my car, and he insists that we take it into any store when we go shopping.
