Moving sucks
I hope we like it in our new townhouse, because I never want to move again. Â We’ve had quite the ordeal. Thank goodness for Tim’s parents or we would never have pulled this off. Â It felt like whatever could go wrong did. Â We couldn’t get into our townhouse on Friday like originally planned because there was a mixup and it hadn’t even been cleaned then. Â So we had to wait until Sunday to even walk in the door. Â
On Sunday we hired student movers to help load our furniture into the U-haul, and they hadn’t even been working an hour when one of the guys got injured. Â So his partner had to take him back to Oregon City and find a replacement worker. Â During the three hour hiatus Tim and his dad took a pickup load full of stuff to the townhouse and finally got our keys. Â But our furniture wasn’t completely unloaded into the new place until around 8 pm that night (and we now have a big hole in our wall from attempting to lug our couch up the narrow townhouse stairs…it eventually was lifted up and over the 2nd story balcony). Â
On Monday Tim and his dad rented an additional U-haul trailer so we could fill it with the remnant crap that remained at the sold house. Â There was more to do than we even imagined, so it wasn’t until Tuesday that we took the trailer back to the new townhouse to unload. Â Too tired to deal with unloading it at night, we parked it in front of our garage and went to bed. Â The next morning we found that both the truck and trailer had been towed while we slept. Â Three hundred dollars later we reclaimed what was rightfully ours. Â Then our realtor called to tell us that the new house owners had complained that we still left too much stuff at our old house. Â It was mainly the paint cans and shingles that belonged to the house, but they wanted everything gone. Â So Karen, bless her heart, took her own truck over to the house and got the final load herself. Â Â Â
Lex has been a real trooper throughout all of this. Â He is still such a happy kid. Â We’re very lucky!
One positive thing that happened during the last week was that Tim didn’t have to sell his Bronco like he thought he would. Â His nephew Mike volunteered to drive from Boise to pick it up and take it back to his place. Â Mike and Robin arrived late on Friday night and spent the night on our air mattress downstairs before heading back to Boise on Saturday morning. Â It was great to see them again, and we’re grateful for their help. Â Â Â
We spent Thanksgiving with my aunt Ruth and cousins Robby and Ethan. Â We all hit the buffet at the Portland Hilton downtown, and it was wonderful! Â I knew it would be a good meal when I saw the chocolate fountain at the dessert table as we walked in the door =)
Now Tim and I are trying to get our townhouse in some semblance of order before he starts his new job on Tuesday. Â That’s right! Â My husband is now gainfully employed. Â AudioMojo (his old company) was bought out by a company called Focus Enhancements, and they’ve hired him to work on the wireless speaker system that he helped to create. Â Tim couldn’t be happier about this. Â Not only will he be working on a project that he’s passionate about, but he already knows everyone there and the building is only two miles from our new home.
