Moving sucks

November 30th, 2008 | Category: Lex

I hope we like it in our new townhouse, because I never want to move again.  We’ve had quite the ordeal. Thank goodness for Tim’s parents or we would never have pulled this off.  It felt like whatever could go wrong did.  We couldn’t get into our townhouse on Friday like originally planned because there was a mixup and it hadn’t even been cleaned then.  So we had to wait until Sunday to even walk in the door.

On Sunday we hired student movers to help load our furniture into the U-haul, and they hadn’t even been working an hour when one of the guys got injured.  So his partner had to take him back to Oregon City and find a replacement worker.  During the three hour hiatus Tim and his dad took a pickup load full of stuff to the townhouse and finally got our keys.  But our furniture wasn’t completely unloaded into the new place until around 8 pm that night (and we now have a big hole in our wall from attempting to lug our couch up the narrow townhouse stairs…it eventually was lifted up and over the 2nd story balcony).

On Monday Tim and his dad rented an additional U-haul trailer so we could fill it with the remnant crap that remained at the sold house.  There was more to do than we even imagined, so it wasn’t until Tuesday that we took the trailer back to the new townhouse to unload.  Too tired to deal with unloading it at night, we parked it in front of our garage and went to bed.  The next morning we found that both the truck and trailer had been towed while we slept.  Three hundred dollars later we reclaimed what was rightfully ours.  Then our realtor called to tell us that the new house owners had complained that we still left too much stuff at our old house.  It was mainly the paint cans and shingles that belonged to the house, but they wanted everything gone.  So Karen, bless her heart, took her own truck over to the house and got the final load herself.

Lex has been a real trooper throughout all of this.  He is still such a happy kid.  We’re very lucky!

One positive thing that happened during the last week was that Tim didn’t have to sell his Bronco like he thought he would.  His nephew Mike volunteered to drive from Boise to pick it up and take it back to his place.  Mike and Robin arrived late on Friday night and spent the night on our air mattress downstairs before heading back to Boise on Saturday morning.  It was great to see them again, and we’re grateful for their help.

We spent Thanksgiving with my aunt Ruth and cousins Robby and Ethan.  We all hit the buffet at the Portland Hilton downtown, and it was wonderful!  I knew it would be a good meal when I saw the chocolate fountain at the dessert table as we walked in the door =)

Now Tim and I are trying to get our townhouse in some semblance of order before he starts his new job on Tuesday.  That’s right!  My husband is now gainfully employed.  AudioMojo (his old company) was bought out by a company called Focus Enhancements, and they’ve hired him to work on the wireless speaker system that he helped to create.  Tim couldn’t be happier about this.  Not only will he be working on a project that he’s passionate about, but he already knows everyone there and the building is only two miles from our new home.

Packing up

November 20th, 2008 | Category: Lex

Tomorrow we get the keys to our new townhouse!  We were actually able to rent the one that I mentioned in the last blog entry.  So we’ll soon be residents of Hillsboro again.  And today our house sale officially closed, but we don’t have to surrender the keys for this house until Tuesday night (we’re renting it back from the new buyers for a few days while we take care of some last minute things).  We’ve rented a U-haul truck for Sunday and have hired some student movers to deal with lifting the heavy furniture.  So for now we’re just packing, packing, packing.  Luckily Tim’s parents are here to help with babysitting duty and household chores or we wouldn’t get anything done.  Lex is quite the handful these days.  He’s a busy boy who definitely has a mind of his own!  His pediatrician prescribed an antibiotic for him, so he’s finally getting over his lingering cough.  And his fever disappeared after three days.  He’s still not sleeping well, but I guess we’ll tackle one challenge at a time…

Still not feeling well

November 16th, 2008 | Category: Lex

Poor Lex has had a rough couple of days.  We’re not sure if this is from his vaccines or if he caught a bug.  His fever finally broke today but he definitely doesn’t feel well and is certainly more fragile emotionally.  He breaks into tears over little things that never used to bother him.  You can see in the pictures that his eyes don’t sparkle like usual.  Hopefully he’ll feel better soon.

Last night Becky, Dayn and Ashley came over for pizza and gelato (made by Ashley).  We hung out in the basement to avoid waking the sick baby, but he hasn’t been sleeping well and ended up joining the party anyway.

Meanwhile the search for a rental continues.  Tim and I thought we found a townhome today but then were told that there was a mistake and it had been leased the day before.  Who needs a forwarding address anyway?

Just like his daddy…

loving the laptop:

Today Lex had a raging fever all day.  The poor guy had the rosiest cheeks and he kept moaning.  We gave him Motrin, which seemed to help him feel a little better.  We were baffled as to where this mysterious and sudden illness came from, but then we remembered that the nurse at the pediatrician’s office warned us that he might get a fever a week after getting the MMR vaccine.  So there you go…mystery solved.  It’s been one week exactly since Lex got his shots.  Hopefully tomorrow the fever will be gone.

Busy times

November 11th, 2008 | Category: Lex

This is a crazy time at the Weaver household, so the blog posts may be a little less frequent. Tim is looking for a job, we’re trying to pack up our entire house, we’re viewing possible rentals, and in the meantime we’re trying to entertain a baby who wants our undivided attention.  No biggie, right?

Our realtor finally put a sold sticker on our sign out in front of the house.  We’re very proud of that sticker!

Lex’s eating habits continue to ebb and flow.  Some days he’ll be monstrously hungry and some days he’ll throw every single food item offered onto the floor.  He’s also learned that Kiwi is always below his high chair during meal times, so offering her his food off the tray has become a favorite activity.  Kiwi’s going to double her weight if we’re not careful!
