First smile (?)
We’d like to apologize to all of our Lex blog fans…we know it’s been a while since our last post. But hey, cut us some slack - we’re busy raising a baby here!
Lex now weighs in at a hefty 10 lbs 2 oz (as of yesterday). The boy does like his milk. And he’s doing much better at nursing these days. He now only gets a bottle right before going to bed in the evening or if I’m not at home for a feeding. He used to get really uncomfortable with gas after gulping down his bottles, so this arrangement seems to be better for all of us (and I don’t have to spend half of my day pumping breast milk like I used to.)
Tim and I think that Lex gave us his first intentional smile yesterday. We were both cooing and smiling at him and his face broke into a huge grin. It didn’t appear to be the same smile as he’s given us before..the “I just peed myself and it felt good” grin. This one seemed legit. So we’re going to call it his first smile. He hasn’t repeated it today, but I think we’re on to something here.
Lately Lex has been sleeping between us at night on a little wedge positioner (to keep him slightly inclined.) He doesn’t seem to be as noisy as when he was sleeping in his car seat, and it’s easy to feed him this way. He still doesn’t want to sleep flat on his back though. I think he has a mild case of acid reflux or something, because he tends to gag and spit up when we lay him down that way. Hopefully this condition will get better as he gets older. Our crib has been ordered but hasn’t arrived yet anyway.
Here are some pictures of Lex with his Grandma Shirley:

Boise visitors
Lex’s grandparents arrived on Thursday, so we haven’t held our baby since Shirley walked in the door =) Tim and I actually got to go out to dinner and a movie the other night since we had very willing babysitters at home (my romantic movie of choice: the new Rambo flick).
Wendell took a turn today at playing Guitar Hero:

Bigger and Bigger
We went to a lactation appointment on Monday and Lex now weighs a whopping Rudy Giuliani (9 lbs 11 oz).
The night before our appointment was a rough one. Lex slept from 10pm to 2am but didn’t go back to sleep after that, so neither did we. Laura’s trying to substitute one nightly bottle feeding with a nursing session. Last night went much better.
Lex prefers to sleep at an incline in his car seat most of the time. We tried to lay Lex (mostly) flat in his pack-n-play since we feel like he should be sleeping in his crib, but he wouldn’t have any of that. He conjured up some new pig-like sounds that we haven’t had the pleasure of hearing before.

We’re trying to make the best use of the space in our over-crowded house, so we rearranged the furniture a bit. We moved the love seat by the front window, which is a terrier-approved couch placement.

Even cuter!
Our son is cuter than ever…no question there! Tim and I are really enjoying observing his development. Just in the past few days Lex has become more alert, awake and interactive. The other day he grabbed Tim’s finger and put it in his own mouth to suck on it. And he’s tracking toys with his eyes when we hold them up to him. We’ve started reading him stories from his book collection and he does look at some of the pictures.
